About River Clyde Homes

River Clyde Homes is a new not-for-profit housing organisation, which is run by a Board of tenants, Council nominees and community members. It is regulated by Communities Scotland to ensure that it manages housing in the best interests of the tenants of Inverclyde, and the community as a whole.

"Now that tenants have voted in favour of the transfer, it will mean much more money will be available to invest in homes and neighbourhoods. It will also give tenants a real say in the decisions that are made about their housing, with tenants on the Board influencing policies and investment decisions", says Roy Steel Chair of the RCH Board who is a Tenant Board member.

The Board of River Clyde Homes has prepared a Business Plan for the new organisation. This plan gives tenants a clear understanding of what they can expect from the new organisation on key issues like improvements, repairs and rent levels.

River Clyde Homes will provide high quality rented housing that is more affordable. River Clyde Homes also understands that housing needs to meet the changing requirements of the people of Inverclyde. This means providing more homes that are suitable for older people, families or those with disabilities.

Inverclyde housing needs major investment. A recent survey of Inverclyde Council’s housing stock showed that, on average, over £58,000 needs to be spent on maintaining and improving every home over the next 30 years to bring it up to standards set by the Scottish Executive.

Now that tenants have voted in favour of transfer River Clyde Homes can make this happen. The Treasury will now write off the Council's historic housing debts from building and refurbishing the houses - which means that more money will be available to invest in improving homes.
