River Clyde Homes takes over responsibility for housing stock

On 03 December 2007 River Clyde Homes took over the management and maintenance of approximately 7,600 former Inverclyde Council houses. The transfer followed a positive ballot November 2006 when 71.4% of tenants voted in favour of the transfer.

Roy Steel, Chair of River Clyde Homes, said: “Our plans to improve housing will boost the overall regeneration of the area. By providing high quality affordable housing we will ensure that people see Inverclyde as an attractive place to live and work. This is the start of a new era which will bring huge benefits to both tenants and the wider community”.

River Clyde Homes has a comprehensive programme of improvements to tenants’ homes – with thousands of new kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems. There will also be major programme of environmental improvements to the area around tenants’ homes with extra fencing and security lighting.

Karen Neary, Chief Executive of River Clyde Homes, said: “Alongside our plans to improve homes we will be working hard to provide first class services. This will include improved response times for repairs and a new freephone line. With the expertise and commitment of staff transferring to us I am confident that tenants can look forward to a bright future”.

We will also work with other local housing associations to bring forward plans to build 1,000 new homes over the next eight years.
